Odisha Chief Minister Lays Foundation Stone for Welspun Textile Complex in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Welspun Textile complex at Choudwar in Cuttack. The occasion marks a milestone in the resurgence of Choudwar’s industrial prowess, harkening back to its illustrious past as a hub of industrial development.

Chief Minister Patnaik expressed his delight at the prospect of Choudwar reclaiming its former glory, tracing its industrial roots back to the visionary efforts of Biju Babu in the early fifties. With the foundation stone laid for the globally-renowned Welspun Group’s integrated textile manufacturing facility and warehousing complex, history was rewritten for Choudwar, signaling a new era of industrial growth and prosperity in Cuttack district.

Welspun Group’s decision to establish its state-of-the-art facility in Odisha underscores the state’s conducive business environment and robust industrial policies. The Rs 3,050 crore investment is poised to generate employment opportunities for over 10,000 individuals, while also fostering substantial business prospects for small and medium enterprises.

Acknowledging the symbiotic relationship between the textile industry and agricultural sectors, Chief Minister Patnaik emphasized the positive impact of the Welspun unit on cotton farmers from Kalahandi, Bolangir, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts. He underscored the importance of skill development initiatives to harness the potential of women in the textile sector, thereby enhancing employment opportunities.

Highlighting Welspun Group’s global reputation and market presence, Chief Minister Patnaik lauded the company’s commitment to establishing a significant presence in Odisha. He expressed gratitude to Welspun Group Chairman B.K. Goenka for choosing to invest in the state and assured full support for the success of the venture.

In his address, Chairman B.K. Goenka commended Odisha’s remarkable progress over the past two decades, attributing it to the visionary leadership and diligent efforts of Chief Minister Patnaik. He praised the state government’s transformative 5T initiative, noting the remarkable strides made in enhancing the quality of government schools.

The Welspun Textile complex is poised to contribute significantly to Odisha’s industrial development trajectory, promising direct employment for 10,000 individuals and indirect opportunities for 20,000 more. Industries Minister Pratap Deb highlighted the immense potential of the textile complex in bolstering Choudwar’s industrial landscape and fostering widespread socio-economic growth.

In attendance were various dignitaries, including MLA Debi Prasad Mishra, MLA Souvik Biswal, and Industries Secretary Hemant Sharma. The event also witnessed discussions on the increased allowances of various government schemes, further underscoring the government’s commitment to holistic development and welfare.
