Wrestlers’ sexual harassment case: Delhi court adjourns hearing on chargesheet against Brij Bhushan

New Delhi, Aug 3  : A Delhi Court on Thursday adjourned hearing on the chargesheet against BJP MP and Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in an alleged sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers.

The court adjourned the matter for hearing on August 9, 10 and 11.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal after hearing the submission on behalf of Singh said, “Ld. Defence Counsel undertakes to take the soft copies of the said documents, as mentioned in the application, from the IO today itself. IO is instructed accordingly. With the undertaking of Defence Counsel, the said application stands disposed off.”

“At request, matter is kept for arguments on charge on 09.08.2023, 10.08.2023 and 11.08.2023,” the court said.

Counsel for Singh after moving application submitted that the documents supplied are complete. However there are certain photographs/documents, of which he sought a better picture/copy.

The ACMM Court after taking cognisance on the chargesheet issued summons against Singh and his Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar for his appearance on July 18, and after their and after appearance on July 20, granted regular bail with the conditions to furnishing the personal bond of Rs 25,000.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Mahima Rai Singh on June 22, after hearing the submission on behalf of Public Prosecutor, transfered the chargesheet to the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal for hearing.

Delhi Police after investigation, on June15 filed a charge sheet under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) defined under Indian Penal Code(IPC) against Singh.
