Odisha: 762 villages, 66 wards in ULBs affected in flood like situation

Bhubaneswar, Aug 3 : As many as 762 villages of 90 blocks in 15 districts and 66 wards of 17 ULBs have been affected by heavy rain and flood like situation in Odisha, Special Relief Commissioner S Sahu said here on Thursday. He said 1.20 lakh people have been affected in the rain and flood like situation and 6834 persons have been evacuated and sheltered in safe buildings. The administration has opened 136 free kitchens to provide food to the people kept in the shelter homes and safer places The flood situation is being closely monitored by the Special Relief Commissioner at the State Emergency Operation Center. Official sources said in the Mahanadi Basin, the discharge of water at Mundali 9.18 lakh cusec while the discharge of water at Khairmal and Barmul is showing a receding trend. The SRC said peak flood of 9.18 lakh cusecs flows in river Mahanadi at Delta Head Munduli at 5 PM and the water level is constant since 4 PM. Due to rise in water level in river Mahanadi at Naraj, flood like situation is likely to occur in low lying areas of Cuttack, Khordha, Puri Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur districts. The District Administration of these districts are closely monitoring the situation. The water level in Baitarani river at Akhuapada is fast receding.It was 19.44 meter against danger level of 17.83 meter and showing a receding trend. The water level at Anandpur is also falling,he said, adding the District Administrations of Bhadrak and Jajpur are closely monitoring the situation. The Water level of Brahmani at Jenapur is constant at 22.20 meter against Danger Level of 23.00 meter at 4PM. The water level of Jalaka river at Mathani, Balasore is flowing above danger level but showing a falling trend, SRC office sources said.
