Odisha: One more fraudster held by EOW in multi-crore land scam

Bhubaneswar, July 21 : One more fraudster involved in a multi-crore land scam was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Bhubaneswar.
EOW sources here on Friday said fraudster Gour Prasad Mohanty of Pallahat, Khordha, was arrested from Puri on July 20 under U/s 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471/120-B IPC.
He will be produced before the SDJM in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
Earlier, two fraudsters, Sabita Das and Aditya Kumar Sahoo, were arrested in this case.
The arrest was made on the basis of an allegation made by Swosti Ranjan Pani of Sailashree Vihar, Bhubaneswar.
Pani alleged that the fraudsters contacted him to purchase the landed property at Mouza-Bachhapur, Baranga, for Rs 2 crore, standing in the name of one Rangalata Swain.
EOW sources said the fraudsters entered into a criminal conspiracy to sell out the land by impersonating the real owner and preparing forged Aadhaar, PAN, and residential certificates in the name of Rangalata Swain by affixing the photo of the impersonator, Sabita Das, on the documents.
They also opened a bank account with Axis Bank in the name of Rangalata Swain by using the forged documents.
The fraudsters tried to avail a loan from the bank by mortgaging the faked patta of the land, but they failed to avail the loan.
They then registered an agreement with one Sripati Badajena to sell the landed property and received Rs 20 lakh in advance.

The fraudsters then contacted Swostik Ranjan Pani to sell the same land and persuaded him to pay Rs 25 lakh in advance.
Pani paid Rs 25 lakh, which was misappropriated by the fraudsters. Out of Rs 25 lakhs, Rs 10 lakhs were transferred to the account of the arrested accused, Gour Prasad Mohanty.
Imposter Sabita Das, with the help of the forged KYC, has opened another bank account with PNB in the name of Rangalata Swain and purchased some electronic items by using that account.
This gang could be involved in many other such cases that are being scrutinised by EOW, and action would be initiated in all such cases, EOW sources here said.
