According to the kin of Chittaranjan, his friend Jagannath Sarangi alias Jaga had borrowed Rs 3 lakh from him but was refusing to repay the amount. Jaga has killed Chittaranjan over the issue, they alleged.
The man’s family also alleged that Pallai was murdered when he went to attend a feast on Saturday along with a person close to Das Burma. However, Chittaranjan’s wife had alleged the involvement of Das Burma in the suspected murder.
Odisha DGP Abhay today directed the Crime Branch to take over the investigation of the case, which has been registered by the Puri Sadar police.
Das Burma also held discussion with the SP and urged the police official for proper investigation into the case.
Notably, body of Chittaranjan was found floating in Nuanai river under Sadar Police limits in Puri district on December 13. A native of Sanabandhakera village under Brahmagiri police limits in Puri district, Chittaranjan went missing on December 10 night.
Family members of the deceased had yesterday met Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh and demanded a Crime Branch probe into the matter. Das Burma along with Chittaranjan’s father, uncle, brother and sister met the police official with a demand of stringent action against the accused.
