AI-based Cameras Detect Irregularities in Odisha Matric Exams, Centre Superintendents Transferred
Bhubaneswar: Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based cameras deployed at examination centers for the ongoing Matric exams in Odisha have played a pivotal role in detecting various irregularities, ensuring the integrity of the examination process.
Recently, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) took action by transferring the Centre Superintendent at Saharapada High School due to irregularities uncovered during the Matric examination conducted at the center. The decision came after AI cameras identified anomalies during the examination.
The District Education Officer of Keonjhar district initiated disciplinary action against the Centre Superintendent at Saharapada High School following the detection of irregularities by the AI cameras. Similarly, concerns arose when examinees at Hatadihi School in Keonjhar were observed conversing during the English exam in the presence of the invigilator. Consequently, the Centre Superintendent of Hatadihi has been recommended for transfer.
The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) is currently conducting the High School Certificate (HSC) examinations across the state, with stringent measures in place to uphold the integrity of the exams. As part of these efforts, approximately 600 AI-powered cameras have been installed to monitor exam centers and deter malpractice.
Data from BSE sources indicates that over 40 cases of malpractice have been identified thanks to the implementation of AI cameras. Expressing concern over these incidents, the board has directed District Education Officers (DEO) to take appropriate disciplinary action against invigilators and center superintendents found violating examination protocols.
Similar incidents of irregularities have been reported from various districts including Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Bhadrak, and Jajpur. These developments underscore the importance of leveraging technology to maintain the sanctity of examination processes and uphold academic integrity. Through the deployment of AI-based surveillance, the Odisha education authorities aim to ensure fair and transparent conduct of examinations, thereby safeguarding the credibility of the education system in the state.
