Income-Tax Department Raids Coaching Center and Residences of Subrat Kumar Chhatoi for Alleged Tax Evasion

Bhubaneswar: The Income-Tax department has launched a series of raids on the coaching center and residences of Subrat Kumar Chhatoi in Bhubaneswar, Nimpara, and other locations across Odisha. The operation, which entered its second consecutive day on Tuesday, marks a determined effort by authorities to probe allegations of tax evasion against Chhatoi.

The raids, initiated at 4.00 am on Monday, have seen the deployment of at least 10 teams from the Income-Tax department, underscoring the seriousness of the investigation. While officials have remained tight-lipped regarding the specifics of the raids, it has been revealed that several crucial documents and bank details pertaining to Chhatoi have been seized during the operation.

According to reports, Chhatoi is alleged to have evaded taxes worth lakhs of rupees, prompting the intensified scrutiny from tax authorities. The raids come as a part of a broader investigation into Chhatoi’s financial affairs, aiming to uncover any potential discrepancies in tax compliance.

This is not the first time that Chhatoi has found himself under the radar of tax authorities. In March 2023, a team from the Central Goods and Services Tax (GST) department conducted similar raids on multiple locations linked to Chhatoi, based on allegations of tax evasion. The recurrence of such investigations underscores the persistence of authorities in pursuing individuals suspected of tax irregularities.

The ongoing raids and investigations underscore the proactive stance adopted by tax enforcement agencies in tackling tax evasion. The meticulous scrutiny of financial records and assets reflects the determination of authorities to uphold tax compliance and ensure accountability within the system.

As the raids continue and investigations progress, the outcome of these efforts will be closely monitored by stakeholders, with implications extending beyond the individual case to broader considerations of tax enforcement and compliance in the region.
