Deadly Stabbing Incident Sparks Tension in Odisha’s Gajapati District

Bhubaneswar: Tragedy struck during a wedding procession at Chandragiri village under Mohana police limits in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Tuesday night, resulting in the death of a man identified as Prashant Pradhan. The incident, allegedly fueled by past enmity, has left the community in shock and led to heightened tensions in the area.

According to sources, the accused, Srihari Pradhan, reportedly stabbed Prashant, who was a part of the procession, before fleeing the scene. Despite efforts to rush Prashant to the Chandragiri Community Health Centre, his injuries proved fatal, and he succumbed during treatment.

The news of Prashant’s death sparked outrage among villagers, who vented their anger by torching the house of the accused. Demanding justice, the enraged villagers called on the police, who had already apprehended Srihari, to hand him over to them. The situation escalated further when the villagers blocked NH-326, disrupting vehicular movement in the area.

Sources indicate that the altercation leading to the fatal stabbing may have stemmed from a quarrel between Srihari and Prashant during a game on Maha Shivratri. This incident is suspected to be the culmination of simmering tensions between the two individuals.

In response to the escalating tensions, law enforcement authorities have deployed policemen in the area to prevent any further flare-ups. The presence of police personnel aims to maintain peace and order in the community and ensure that the situation does not escalate into further violence.

The tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of unresolved disputes and the importance of fostering harmony within communities. It highlights the need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms and underscores the role of law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order.
