Prohibitory orders imposed in one more city of Odisha ahead of Hanuman Jayanti rally

Bhubaneswar: Prohibitory orders under Section 144(1) of CrPC have been imposed in Jaipur in Odisha’s Koraput district till 9 am on April 20, after Sambalpur, where violence took place during a preparatory rally for Hanuman Jayanti.

“As per telephonic conversation of SDPO, Jeypore, I declare any such assembly and assembly of more than two persons or any attempt likely to disturb the peace, law and order situation in Jeypore Sub-Division.”Public nuisance prejudicial to public peace and tranquility is unlawful,” said the notification issued by the office of sub-collector Bedabra Pradhan on Thursday.

This order came into effect from 3 pm on April 13 for the immediate prevention of such nuisance and for the safety of the lives of the general public. According to sources, the decision to impose prohibitory orders was taken against the backdrop of violence in Sambalpur city where two groups clashed on Wednesday evening and 10 policemen were injured in intense stone-pelting. Internet service has also been stopped in the district for 48 hours.

In Odisha, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the day of Maha Vishuva Sankranti, which is falling on 14 April this year.
