Heatwave Returns: Mercury Likely To Soar In Odisha From Today

Bhubaneswar: With the return of heatwave, several places in Odisha may turn into hot cauldron with the mercury soaring to 45 degree Celsius on Monday, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).

While the MeT office has issued yellow warning for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sonepur during the next 24 hours, the day temp is likely to touch 45 degree Celsius in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Rourkela and Sundargarh, followed by Sonepur and Boudh at 44 degree Celsius and Balangir, Bargarh, Angul and Titlagarj at 43 degree Celsius. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are likely to record 40 degree Celsius each.

The IMD further said that the maximum temperature is likely to rise by 3 to 5°C during the next 2 days at many places over the districts of Odisha under the influence of dry westerly/ northwesterly winds and high solar insolation. “Heatwave condition is likely in some districts of interior Odisha from May 15 and day temperature is likely to be more than 40°C and 3 to 5°C above normal,” it added.

People have been advised to take precautionary measure while going outside between 11 am and 3 pm.

May 15: Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at a few places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sonepur.

May 16: Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at a few places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, Boudh and Bolangir.

May 17: Heat wave condition very likely to prevail at a few places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh and Bolangir.
