Former Speaker Kishore Mohanty Passes Away

Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: Brajrajnagar MLA and former Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly Kishore Mohanty passed away on Thursday. The senior BJD leader suffered a cardiac arrest today evening and breathed his last at a private hospital in Jharsuguda.

A veteran political leader of western Odisha, Mohanty was elected to the Assembly from Jharsuguda thrice. He was the Government Chief Whip for four years during 2004 to 2008 and also elected to the Rajya Sabha.

A former Minister, Speaker, Western Odisha Development Council Chairman, Mohanty, a native of Jharsuguda donned many hats and discharged his responsibilities successfully. Mohanty was first elected to the Assembly in 1990 and has been a key leader from western Odisha during his career spanning 30+ years.

In 2019 elections, he won the Brajrajnagar assembly seat. Political leaders and people from all walks of life have mourned the death of Mohanty. At the age 63, Kishore Mohanty breathed his last.
