Odisha: Youth sentenced to 12-year RI for kidnapping, raping a minor girl

Kendrapara, Dec 28 : Ad-hoc Additional Session Judge (Fast Track Special Court) of Kendrapara Tribikram Keshari Chinhara has convicted a 29-year-old youth for kidnapping and raping a minor girl.
The Judge sentenced convict Saroj Kumar Nayak alias Kuna to 12 years Rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine amount of Rs 26,000.
If the convict failed to pay the fine amount, he would further undergo another one year of Imprisonment, the Judge ordered on Wednesday.
According to the prosecution, Saroj kidnapped the 17-year-old in May 2021 while she was returning to her house from school.
The father of the victim girl lodged an FIR at Kendrapara Sadar police limit on May 22, 2021 alleging that Saroj had forcibly kidnapped his daughter and raped her.
He said his daughter later fled from the illegal confinement and returned to the house taking the advantage of temporary absence of the accused.
Sadar police later registered a case and arrested Saroj on May 29, 2021 and produced before the court.
While adjudging the case, the judge after verifying the evidence and cross examining witnesses held saroj guilty and sentenced him to 12 years Rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine amount of Rs 26,000.
The Court also recommended to the government to provide a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim for her rehabilitation. It directed the Secretary of DLSA, Kendrapada to place the matter before the District Committee for award of the compensation amount to the victim, Special Public Prosecutor Manoj Kumar Sahoo said.
