Parties kick off campaigns for Pipili bypoll

Pipili: With rescheduling of Pipili bypoll to be held on September 30, candidates kicked off campaigning from September 20, 2021. The vote counting will take place on October 3.

Bypoll to the assembly constituency was necessitated following death of sitting BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy due to Covid-19-related complications in October, last year.

The top three parties — Bijiu Janata Dal (BJD), Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress have already released the list of star campaigners.

While the BJD has fielded Rudra Prasad Maharathy, son of the deceased MLA, BJP has Ashrit Pattanayak, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 elections.After Mangaraj’s death, Congress has nominated Bishwokeshan Harichandan Mohapatra as its candidate. There are seven other candidates are in the fray.

It is pertinent to mention that in 2019, Pradeep Maharathy of Biju Janata Dal won the seat by defeating Ashrit Pattanayak from Bharatiya Janata Party with a margin of 15787 votes.

Pipili Assembly constituency is falling under Puri Lok sabha constituency. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Biju Janata Dal candidate Pinaki Misra won from Puri Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 11714 votes by defeating Dr Sambit Patra from Bharatiya Janata Party.
