Odisha Vigilance arrest Commandant of State Armed Police First Battalion

Bhubaneswar, Oct 1 : Odisha State Armed Police Ist Battalion, Dhenkanal Commandant Sunil Kumar Behera was arrested by Odisha Vigilance on Sunday for possessing cash of Rs.10 lakh during search operation.

Vigilance sources here said, acting on a tip off that Behera has been collecting huge cash as bribe , the vigilance sleuths kept a close watch over his movement and activities for the last few days.

The Vigilance team intercepted him near Madhusudan Setu (CDA, Sector-11), on September 30 while he was coming from Dhenkanal to his residence at Cuttack by his office vehicle and seized Rs.1,31,535.00 from his possession

After the interception, simultaneous searches were conducted at his Government residential quarter at Dhenkanal, residential quarter at Cantonment Road, Cuttack, newly constructed house at Jharpada, Bhubaneswar, parental house located at Shreekhetra Nagar, Puri.

Further cash Rs.8,70,000.00 was recovered during house search from his residential quarter at Cantonment Road, Cuttack leading to total cash recovery of Rs.10,01,535.00.

In this connection, a case U/s 13 (2) r/w 13(1) (b) Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against Behera and he was forwarded to Court on Sunday.

The investigation of the case is in progress. Details of movable and immovable assets including investments, deposits are being investigated, Vigilance sources said.
