IPL To Start From March 27

Mumbai, Jan 22: The 2022 Indian Premier League is expected to begin on March 27 and run till May end. The decision was taken in a meeting between BCCI officials and owners of 10 franchises on Saturday.

The tournament will take place in India, with Mumbai as its main venue. And if the Covid-19 cases decrease then Ahmedabad could host the play-offs.

However, if the Covid-related situation is found to be not feasible to host the IPL in India then the UAE and South Africa will be considered as the back-up options, ESPNcricinfo reported.

The final decision is expected by February 20.

Earlier on January 22, the IPL announced that a total of 1214 players (896 Indian and 318 overseas) have signed up to be part of the upcoming mega auction.

The two-day auction will see 10 teams bidding for some of the finest talents in world cricket. The players’ list incorporates 270 capped, 903 uncapped and 41 associate players.

A total of 33 Players have been retained or picked ahead of the auction.

The existing eight franchises have retained a total of 27 players while the two new teams have picked 6 players ahead of the auction.
