Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: The excise officials have seized 20 gold biscuits and recovered
Rs 1.22 crore cash from during a search operation at Lanjipalli under Baidyanathpur police
limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Tuesday night.
At least two people including a gold trader were detained in connection with the seizure of cash and gold biscuits.
Excise department sources on Wednesday said the sleuths acting on an input, were conducting a search operation to check smuggling of ganja when they stumbled upon the large catch from a person travelling on a government bus.
The excise officials seized two bags containing huge cash of Rs.1.22 crore from the person, hailing from Maharashtra who could not produce valid and necessary supporting documents for carrying such huge cash.
He however, confessed that he was returning to Maharashtra after selling gold biscuits to a gold trader in Berhampur. .
On further interrogation he disclosed the name of a gold trader and the police recovered at least
20 gold biscuits from his jewellery shop.
