12 Samiti Members Detained Ahead Of Chatrapur Block Chairman Election

Ganjam, Apr 2: Ahead of the Chatrapur Block Chairman election in the Ganjam district1, as many as 12 Samiti Members were allegedly detained in a hotel .

Reportedly, a video was circulated all over the internet where the Samiti members alleged that police had locked them at the Panthanivas in Barakul since Friday night and had seized their mobile phones.

All of them had appealed for their rescue and also threatened to commit suicide by jumping off the hotel building if they do not get rescued. However, all of them were finally released by the police this morning and were sent to Chatrapur.

Notably, six committee members could not be elected as they were tested positive for Covid.

Adding to it, the Block Chairman election that was scheduled to be held on March 12 had been rescheduled to be held today.
