Elephant carcass recovered in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district
The carcass of a tusker was recovered near Ostapal village under Sadar Forest Range in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Sunday. The cause of the death of the jumbo is yet to be ascertained but it is suspected that the animal might have died due to poisoning.
On being informed, the Forest Department officials visited the spot and seized the carcass. Samples of the carcass have been sent for post-mortem.
Locals spotted the elephant carcass near Ostapal village and informed Forest officials. The elephant is estimated to be 20 years old.
The ranger said that the cause of death can be ascertained only after post-mortem. Further reports are awaited.
