Makar Sankranti: Odisha Police Asks People To Avoid Manza Thread For Kite Flying
On the eve of Makar Sankranti, Odisha Police has cautioned people against using the ‘killer’ Manja (glass-coated synthetic threads) for the purpose.
During past years several persons have lost their lives because of manja thread. Many others also fell from roofs and high places while flying kites in the state.
“Use of ‘manja’ thread for kite flying may cause injuries and even deaths to the commuters. Use of such thread will invite punishment to the kite flyers,” the Odisha Police tweeted while asking people to take utmost care while flying kites to avoid any mishap.

It is worth mentioning here that a 31-year-old man was killed after his throat was slit with a Manza thread on Cuttack-Chandbali State Highway near Jagatpur in Cuttack district in December 2021.
This apart, several others sustained injuries after getting entangled in Manja thread in Odisha in the last few years.
