Paris, May 26: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza with her Croatian mixed doubles partner Ivan Dodig defeated pair of Laura Siegemund Santiago Gonzalez in the French Open opening round.
The veteran Indo-Croatian pair registered 7-6(4), 6-2 straight sets win over German-Mexican duo on Wednesday to kickstart her campaign on a winning note.
Indian ace, who won the French Open mixed doubles title in 2012 with then-partner Mahesh Bhupathi, is playing her last clay court Grand Slam tournament.
After losing the women’s doubles opening round match at the Australian in January, Sania announced that she will retire after 2022 season.
