Bhubaneswar, Mar 11: Executive Engineer, Rural Works (Electrical) Division, Berhampur Jaganath Sethy was arrested on Friday after disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 7.83 crore was unearthed from his possession by Odisha vigilance.
Vigilance sources said the assets unearthed is 360 percent of his known sources of income. After his arrest Sethy was forwarded to the Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Berhampur. A case was registered against Sethy, along with his spouse and elder son U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC Act, 1988 as amended by Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Sethy, simultaneous house searches were conducted at five places on March 11 by Odisha Vigilance. During house searches, movable and immovable assets worth over Rs.7.83 crore were unearthed in the name of Sethy and his family members.
The assets unearthed included one five storied building at Gajapati Nagar, worth about Rs.1.68 crore., One four storied building at AIIMS Nagar worth about Rs.1.58 crore, One four storied building at Gajapati Nagar, worth about Rs.90 Lakhs, a single storied building at village Putabagada, Chatrapur worth around Rs.9.53 Lakhs, 17 plots in Bhubaneswar, Jatni and Berhampur. The Registered Sale Deed (RSD) value comes to approx Rs 2.18 crore.
This apart Bank deposits in name of Sethy and his family members worth over Rs.85 Lakhs., 2 four wheelers worth Rs.25 Lakhs., Rs.19,88,790 in cash, 4 two wheelers worth Rs.3,50,989 lakhs, Gold jewellery and household articles were also detected. Investigation of the case is in progress.
