New Delhi Feb 23: As Lakihmpur Kheri went to polls on Wednesday, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi reminded voters that BJP is using all its strength to save the accused of the Kheri “massacre” and said the farmers will not forget the injustice meted out by the Yogi-Modi government.
Taking to Twitter, the Congress leader said: “It is a matter of shame that the families of the victims of Lakhimpur farmer’s massacre, themselves have to approach the Supreme Court to seek justice. “The responsibility was on the government, but the BJP used all its strength to save the minister’s son. “Farmers will not forget this injustice of the BJP government.”
pic.twitter.com/IIPP7rHAeu

In two hours although, there has been low percentage of polling at an average of 9 per cent on the 59 seats across nine districts, Kheri showed the highest polling in two hours with close to 11 per cent. Priyanka’s remarks came after the family members of farmers killed in the Kheri violence, on Monday moved the Supreme Court challenging an order of the Allahabad High Court granting bail to prime accused and Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra.
The petition by the kin of the deceased termed the bail as “an improper and arbitrary exercise of the discretion”. This is the second petition challenging the February 10 order of the Allahabad High Court releasing Ashish Mishra on bail. Four farmers were mowed down by an SUV in Lakhimpur when they were protesting against UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya’s visit on October 3, 2021 against the “black” farm laws. Priyanka Gandhi’s comments also assumed significance, as in the fourth phase of polling on Wednesday in 59 constituencies, state capital Lucknow and Lakhimpur Kheri are also included. All eight seats in Lakhimpur are with the BJP right now. Both the BJP and the SP have repeated their candidates on the Lakhimpur city seat. BJP’s Yogesh Verma, who won the seat in the 2017 polls, will again face Samajwadi Party’s Utkarsh Verma Madhur. The Congress has fielded Ravi Shankar Trivedi.
