Toxic smog engulfs Delhi after Diwali, AQI touches 451

New Delhi, October 21: On the eve of Diwali, Delhi’s skies were shrouded in a blanket of fog and mist. The capital’s air quality index (AQI) worsened. At 7 am on Tuesday, Delhi’s AQI was 451, which falls in the “severe” category.
On Diwali night, many people shot arrows outside the prescribed time slots. As per the Supreme Court’s orders, shooting arrows was allowed for only two hours – from 6 am to 7 pm and from 8 pm to 10 pm. However, these rules were widely violated.
The air quality in Delhi’s suburbs, Noida and Gurugram, also remained very poor. On Tuesday morning, Noida had an AQI of 407 and Gurugram had 402. The air quality has worsened compared to last year. After Diwali 2024, Delhi’s AQI was 359, which is lower than the current situation.
The restrictions and regulations issued by the Supreme Court and the administration are not being followed in practice. Such negligence is causing serious health problems for the people living in Delhi and NCR. Problems like difficulty in breathing, burning eyes and headaches have become major concerns.
This situation once again highlights the importance of celebrating the festival responsibly. People should follow the rules laid down by the administration and contribute to environmental protection. Otherwise, such a situation can bring darkness to the lives of Delhiites every year.
