The 7th King Kansh of Dhanu Yatra Has Passed Away

Bargarh: Former artist of Dhanu Yatra or the man who plays the historic role of King Kansh has passed away. He passed away today at the age of 70. A few days later, he was diagnosed with diabetes and was admitted to the hospital. Crowds gathered at his residence in Barapali, Bargarh district, to have his last darshan. He played the role of Kansa in Dhanu Yatra for 25 years.

Gopal Sahu born in Balangir district, has created a unique identity by acting as the seventh Kansa of Dhanu Yatra. Even though his name was Gopal, everyone knew him as Kansa Maharaj. From 1984 to 2008, he had the opportunity to act 23 times in two episodes. He was a police officer by profession. But his passion is acting.

At that time, a large crowd gathered in Kansa Darabar to watch his performance. He won the hearts of the audience by riding around the city on an elephant and finessing his presence with his eloquence. Many of his stories remain legendary even today. For Gopal’s performance, he was promoted from many reputed institutions.
