Mumbai, Nov 25 : The Indian Navy commissioned the Scorpene-class submarine INS Vela on Thursday at the naval dockyard in Mumbai, in the presence of Chief of Naval staff Admiral Karambir Singh, said an official statement.
The Indian Navy has a total of six submarines in service under the Calvary class submarine project-75. INS Vela is the fourth submarine in the category to be included in service.
Speaking on the occasion, the Admiral said the submarine will inspire the driver to face the challenges with courage. At the same time, it will give the message of victory with vigilance, he added.
INS Vela is the fourth Scorpene-class submarine built by MDL in collaboration with Naval Group of France. The submarine is part of India’s Khudbharat project.
Earlier, the Navy had commissioned warship INS Visakhapatnam on November 21.
