Fly ash hazards forces Villagers in Western Odisha decide to seek mass euthanasis

Sambalpur, June 16 : Suffering from the fly ash hazards, the residents of several villages
under Jujomura block in Odisha’s Sambalpur district have decided to seek for mass euthanasia

The villagers have informed police that they will seek ‘mass euthanasia’ if police and district administration will not solve the dumping of illegal fly ash in their villages.

“Dumping of fly ash has resulted in health hazards for us. It has polluted the water bodies and the people are suffering from eye ailments and many other illnesses. But no one comes to our rescue,” said the villagers who have lodged an FIR in Sadar police station of the district recently.

A good number of Sarpanch and Samitee Members of Jujomura block are the signatories in the FIR.

“Neel Dunguri, famous for lush green forest and biodiversity is badly affected by fly ash dumping.

The Police, administration, and pollution control board are deliberately not taking any action against the fly ash mafias in such illegal activities as they are financially benefited,” alleged the villagers.

Even the NOCs (no objection certificates) submitted from the Sarpanchas of different Gram Panchayats are forged ones, they claimed.

The ‘ fly ash mafia’ in connivance with the government officials are even threatening the innocent villagers who raised voice against them.

“We have knocked every door. If our genuine demand remains unheard, we will apply for mass euthanasia to the President of India,” said Debendra Mohapatra and also Sarpanchs and Samity Members of the affected villages.

When contacted, Sambalpur Collector Ananya Das said “She is yet to know of such incident but
said she will certainly enquire and take appropriate action.”

The IIC of Sadar police station couldn’t be contacted to know the action taken on the FIR lodged
by the villagers.
