Bhubaneswar: The famous Kapileshwar temple in Odisha state capital Bhubaneswar is to be added to the list of protected monuments of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Officials said about this on Tuesday.
The notification in the gazette to include the Kapileshwar temple in the list of protected monuments of the ASI (AS)I came on May 5. This decision has been taken to maintain and conserve this structure. Temple priests and local residents have also expressed happiness over this decision. (Kapileshwar Temple).
Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sadangi lauded this move and requested the Union Tourism Minister Kishan Reddy to declare Khandagiri and Udaygiri caves in Bhubaneswar as ‘world heritage sites’.
Kapileshwar temple was constructed in 5th century AD. It was renovated by Gajapati Kapilendra Dev in the 14th Century. This temple showcases exquisite carvings and gorgeous architecture. It is a fine example of the Kalinga style temple architecture. It is a well-known tourist destination that attracts visitors and devotees.
Kapilesvara Siva temple, commonly referred to as ‘Kapilesvar temple’, is one of the oldest still-existing temples in the state of Odisha. Lord Shiva is worshipped at this temple under the name Kapilesvara which is situated in the Kapilprasad area about 1 km from the 11th-century-old Lingraj Temple of Bhubaneswar.
