Rahul Gandhi Advocates for Hockey Infrastructure Upgrade in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: During a recent visit to Odisha’s Sundargarh district, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extended his support to the budding hockey players of the region and advocated for the enhancement of sports infrastructure, specifically the installation of astro-turf at the SAI Special Area Games (SAG) center.

In a letter addressed to Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Thakur, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the determination and passion exhibited by the hockey players of Sundargarh. He commended their resilience in overcoming challenges and striving for excellence in representing India on the global stage.

Expressing his concern for the players’ training facilities, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the necessity of astro-turf to facilitate effective training sessions. He stressed that the installation of astro-turf at the SAG center in Sundargarh would significantly contribute to the development of hockey infrastructure in Odisha.

Sundargarh, renowned as a prominent hub for hockey, has produced several accomplished players who have made significant contributions at both national and international levels. Recognizing the potential of the region to nurture sporting talent, Rahul Gandhi urged the government to prioritize the improvement of hockey infrastructure in Sundargarh.

The Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, commenced its journey in Odisha through Biramitrapur in Sundargarh district on February 6th. The yatra, spanning three days and covering approximately 200 kilometers, provided an opportunity for Rahul Gandhi to interact with local communities and understand their concerns firsthand.

By advocating for the upgrade of hockey infrastructure in Sundargarh, Rahul Gandhi aims to bolster the region’s sports ecosystem and create more opportunities for aspiring athletes. His efforts underscore the importance of investing in sports infrastructure to foster talent development and promote a culture of sportsmanship and excellence in the country.
