Opp slams Yogi govt over Kheri girls hanging

Lucknow, Sep 15 : The opposition in Uttar Pradesh have attacked the Yogi Adityanath government after rape and murder of two Dalit sisters in Lakhimpur Kheri and said it has exposed the reality of law and order situation in the state.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Thursday termed the incident as “shameful”.

She tweeted, “The incident of two Dalit daughters being kidnapped and raped in front of their mother in Lakhimpur Kheri and hanging their bodies from a tree in heartbreaking and is in news everywhere, there are less words to condemn such sad and shameful incidents.

“Criminals in UP are fearless because the priorities of the government are wrong.”

“This incident openly exposes the claims of the government on the issue of law and order and women safety in UP.

“Criminals are fearless and matters of heinous crimes like Hathras are hushed up. The UP government should make necessary changes in its policy, methodology and priorities.”

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the incident is a heinous repetition of Hathras case.

“After kidnapping and murder of two Dalit sisters in Nighasan police station area, allegation of the father that the ‘panchnama’ and post mortem was done without consent is very serious. The murder of Dalits is a repetition of murder case of ‘daughter of Hathras’ after the farmers in Lakhimpur.”

Congress general secretary and UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too has raised questions as to why heinous crimes against women are increasing in Uttar Pradesh.

“The incident of murder of two sisters in Lakhimpur (UP) is heart-wrenching. The relatives say that those girls were abducted in broad daylight. The law and information does not improve by giving false advertisements in newspapers and TV every day. Why are heinous crimes against women increasing in UP?,” she tweeted.
