Police Seize 120 kg of Cannabis in Mayurbhanj, Two Arrested

Mayurbhanj: In a crackdown on drug trafficking, Mayurbhanj police seized a substantial quantity of cannabis, weighing 120 kilograms, from a car near the main market square of Yashipur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals allegedly involved in the smuggling attempt.

Acting swiftly upon receiving intelligence regarding the transportation of cannabis from Sambalpur to West Bengal, law enforcement authorities set up a strategic trap near Yashipur. This proactive measure resulted in the successful interception of the contraband-laden vehicle and the subsequent arrests.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Asiful Mandal (29) of West Bengal and Meyal Viswan (29). Both suspects are currently in police custody and are set to be arraigned on Tuesday. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings, with a case registered at the Yashipur police station in connection with the incident.

The seized cannabis, valued at approximately Rs 12 lakh, underscores the magnitude of the illicit drug trade in the region.
