Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials apprehended Gourahari Padhy, a Data Entry Operator (DEO) at the RTO Office in Chhatrapur, Ganjam district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000.
As per an official statement, Padhy was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from a complainant. The bribe was allegedly solicited for updating tax details concerning the complainant’s two vehicles, aiming to secure exemption from fines imposed during the Covid-19 period from April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2022.
The entire sum of tainted bribe money has been seized from Padhy by the Vigilance officials. Additionally, a house search is underway at one of Padhy’s locations, focusing on the Disproportionate Assets angle.
This apprehension underscores the commitment of the Odisha Vigilance department in combating corruption and ensuring accountability within government offices.
