Medical Milestone: KIMS Successfully Removes Massive Chest Tumour in 25-Year-Old Woman

Bhubaneswar: A 25-year-old woman has triumphantly recovered from a massive chest tumour at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). The patient, who had been grappling with chest pain, shortness of breath, and a persistent cough for two years, recently underwent a challenging surgery that led to the removal of a tumour weighing approximately 4-4.5 kilograms. This surgery stands out as one of the largest chest tumour extractions ever performed in that anatomical region. The patient’s recovery post-operation has been positive, according to a statement released by KIMS Hospital.

Despite seeking medical assistance at multiple hospitals over the course of two years, the patient’s condition remained undiagnosed and untreated. A collaborative effort between the oncology and cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) departments at KIMS ultimately led to the discovery of the sizable tumour, which had been exerting significant pressure on her heart and lungs.

The team of doctors involved in the patient’s treatment included Dr. Chandan Kumar Ray Mohapatra, Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery; Dr. Subrat Sahoo, Professor of General Surgery; Dr. Jogomaya Pattnaik, Associate Professor of Medical Oncology; along with consultant cardiac anesthesiologists Dr. Ashok Badmali and Dr. Gyanaranjan Mishra.

Dr. Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT and KISS, extended his congratulations to the medical team for their successful intervention in this complex case.
