Trio Arrested in Odisha’s Malkangiri District for Attempted Ganja Smuggling

Bhubaneswar: Three individuals were apprehended near Chitrakonda Chhak in Odisha’s Malkangiri district while allegedly attempting to smuggle approximately 38 kg of ganja tightly packed and concealed around their bodies.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Fiazan (25) and Yashmin Nagar from Ulistan Nagar village, and Sheik Sharik (45) from Yashmin Nagar village, both hailing from Maharashtra’s Amaravati district.

According to sources familiar with the incident, a team from the Orkel police, led by sub-inspector Ajit Singh Bariha, encountered the trio during routine patrolling on Monday. Upon noticing the suspicious behavior of the individuals, who were carrying two white plastic handbags each, the police team attempted to intercept them. However, the suspects attempted to flee, prompting a chase that ultimately led to their apprehension.

Upon conducting a thorough search, law enforcement officials discovered tightly wrapped parcels of ganja totaling 38.2 kg affixed to the bodies of the accused. Additionally, two mobile phones and Rs 2,100 in cash were seized from them.

Further investigation revealed that Sunadhar Khilla from Chitrakonda was the alleged supplier of the contraband. Consequently, a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and authorities are actively pursuing the matter.

This incident underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the menace of drug trafficking and substance abuse. The successful interception and apprehension of the accused demonstrate the commitment of authorities to maintain law and order and safeguard communities from the harmful effects of illicit narcotics.
