Bolangir: The aftermath of a devastating gas explosion in the Belapada area of Bolangir district continues to unfold with tragic consequences, as the death toll has now risen to four. Last week’s horrific incident, which occurred inside a residential house, left six members of a family critically injured and with severe burns.
The heart-wrenching incident took place while the family members, consisting of five women and a youth, were gathered inside their home, engrossed in watching television. Suddenly, a gas cylinder in the kitchen caught fire and exploded, unleashing chaos and devastation in its wake.
Local residents, alerted by the deafening blast, rushed to the scene to rescue the injured victims. With swift action, they managed to transport the victims to the Kantabanji Community Health Centre, recognizing the urgency of their critical condition. Subsequently, the victims were transferred to a private hospital in Rourkela, where they received specialized medical care.
Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the severity of the burns proved fatal for the victims. Tragically, one individual succumbed to their injuries on February 12, followed by two more on February 15. Today, another related death was reported, amplifying the sorrow and grief that has gripped the community. All of the victims, despite undergoing extensive medical treatment, ultimately succumbed to the severity of their burns.
