Tihar-Like Central Jail To Come Up In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The government of Odisha plans to build a new central jail on the outskirts of the capital city, modeled after the Tihar Jail. Construction is set to begin soon. 91 acres of land have been designated for the project, and a blueprint has been created, said sources.

The existing Special Jail in Bhubaneswar will also be renamed “Central Jail-Bhubaneswar” and will have the capacity to hold up to 3,000 inmates, an increase from its current capacity of 991.

The new jail will reportedly be the largest in Odisha and will have all the amenities found in the Tihar correctional facility. The land is located between the Mahatma Gandhi Academy of Prisons and Correctional Services at Chhatabar and the open-air jail at Jamujhari of Bhubaneswar.
