Ruckus in Odisha Assembly; house adjourned till 1600 hours

Bhubaneswar, Sep 25: Odisha Assembly on Monday witnessed ruckus as the members of Opposition BJP and the treasury benches accused each other and shouted slogans forcing Speaker Pramila Mallick to adjourn the house till 1600 hours.

The Speaker was forced to adjourn the Assembly twice, first at 1033 till 1130 hours and again at 1150 hours till 1600 hours as the slogan shouting by both the BJP and BJD members from their seats rocked the house .

As the house assembled for the day at 1030 hours to take up the question hour, the BJP members led by Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi rushed into the well and shouted slogans against the government.

The BJP members protested against the rejection of their notice by the Speaker for a debate on the admissibility of an adjournment motion without assigning any reason.

They created a ruckus over the issue and demanded a clarification from the Chief Minister as to who is superior, the Minister or the Secretary?.

To counter the BJP members, the ruling BJD members alleged the negligence of the Union government and non completion of the construction work of Cuttack-Sambalpur National Highway.

As the slogan and counter slogan rocked the house,Speaker Pramila Mallik first adjourned it at 1033 hrs till 1130 hrs.

There was no change in the situation when the house assembled after the adjournment as the BJP members again rushed to the well and shouted slogans when the Speaker called the Chief Minster to make a statement .

The agitated BJP members created a ruckus in the house shouting slogans “ murder of democracy will no longer be tolerated” and demanded the Chief Minister to clarify who is superior, “the Secretary or the Minister”.

Amidst the chaotic situation,the Chief Minister read out a statement which was not audible.

Soon after the Chief Minister completed his statement, Leader of the Opposition Jayanarayan Mishra was seen reading the questions of the BJP members rejected by the Speaker.

Congress Legislature party leader Narasingha Mishra also stood up and said something which was not audible due to slogan shouting inside the well of the house.

The BJD leaders standing at their respective seats accused the Union government of neglecting the state.The house soon plunged into a chaotic situation forcing the Speaker to adjourn it at 1150 hours till 1600 hours.

Outside the house, opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi said BJP asked question about the expenses incurred during visit of the secretary of the Chief Minister to various districts but the Speaker rejected it.

He said if the question would be rejected then why should there be a question hour.

Refuting the allegations of the treasury bench members, Majhi stated that the central government has provided enough funds to the state government.

Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingha Mishra, however, said the BJP and the BJD members are indulging in mock fights .

Mishra said the Chief Minister was forced to make a statement as the government is rattled over the various allegations.

He alleged there is no democracy neither in the state nor in the country. The Odisha Assembly, Mishra said is not being conducted as per the democratic tradition and questioned the tall claims of the Chief Minister that his government had resolved the problems of people to a large extent by holding grievances meetings.
