Odisha: One held on charges of Wildlife crimes, Leopard skin seized

Bhubaneswar, April 12: The STF of Odisha police have arrested a wildlife criminal and seized a leopard skin from his possession.

STF sources here on Wednesday said acting on reliable information, a team of STF conducted a raid on April 11 afternoon near Champali River Embankment in Sambalpur district.


During the raid wildlife criminal identified as Babuli Naik was apprehended and during the search one Leopard Skin and other incriminating materials were recovered from his possession.


The accused person could not produce any authority in support of possession of the leopard Skin, for which he was arrested.


The STF has registered a case against the wildlife criminal on Wednesday u/s 379/411 /120(B) IPC r/w. Sec.51 of Wild Life (Protection) Act,1972 and the accused will be forwarded to the Court of SDJM, Redhakhol
The skin will be sent to Director WII, Derhadun for biological examination, STF sources said.
