Odia Jawan Among 5 Martyred In Terror Attack In J&K
BHUBANESWAR: Debasis Biswal, a resident of Alagum village in Satyabadi area of Puri district, was one of the five Indian Armymen killed in a terrorist attack in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, police sources said.
“We have received information that one of the martyrs is an Odia. We are in touch with the family members of Biswal,” a senior police officer said.
Debashis is the son of Pratap Biswal and Mamata Biswal. He got married in 2021.
Debashis is survived by his wife Sushree Sangeeta and seven-month-old daughter.
A pall of gloom hung over the village as news of his death arrived in the evening. His family members were inconsolable.
The five deceased personnel belonged to Rashtriya Rifles and were deployed for counterterrorist operations in Poonch. “Today, at approximately 1500 hours, one Army vehicle, moving between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in the Rajouri sector was fired on by unidentified terrorists, taking advantage of heavy rains and low visibility in the area. The vehicle caught fire, due to likely use of grenades by terrorists,” Jammu-based defence spokesperson, Lt Col Devender Anand said.
Operations are in progress to trace the perpetrators, the statement said, adding further details are being ascertained.
