Kalahandi: Cops Garner Applauds For Assisting Elderly Voters In Narla Constituency

Bhawanipatna, Feb 19: Police personnel posted at polling booths across Odisha Friday earned kudos for lending a helping hand to senior citizens and differently-abled people to cast their votes in the Narla constituency of Kalahandi District in the city and suburbs that went to polls.

Personnel of Narla police station were seen assisting senior citizens to polling booths who although many hardship made efforts to cast votes for their desired candidate.

Notably, the second phase of panchayat elections was completed smoothly in Odisha with a turnout of approximately 78.3 %, an official said here on Saturday.

Reportedly, Subarnapur recorded the highest at 85.67 % voter turnout followed by Jharsuguda at 85.14 % and Boudh at 84.9 %.

At least 78.3 % out of 62.10 lakh voters exercised their franchise in this phase. However, the polling percentage may go up as the final report is yet to come, State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi said.

In the first phase of panchayat elections held on Wednesday, 77.2 percent polling was recorded.

The polling began at 7 am and continued till 1 pm. However, in places where voters were seen standing in a queue, they were allowed to cast their votes after the deadline.
