Meteorology Expert Manorama Mohanty Appointed Director of RMC Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Manorama Mohanty, the director of the Ahmedabad Meteorological Department, has been appointed as the new director of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Bhubaneswar. Mohanty will be succeeding HR Biswas, who has been transferred to RMC, Kolkata. This new role comes with a promotion to the S grade for Mohanty.

The Ministry of Earth Science issued a notification confirming Mohanty’s appointment, recognizing her expertise and contributions in the field of meteorology.

Manorama Mohanty entered the realm of weather forecasting after completing her post-graduation in Physics from Utkal University. Over the years, she has played a pivotal role in the accurate prediction of various weather-related calamities, particularly focusing on tropical cyclones in the Arabian Sea that have impacted the state of Gujarat.

Her noteworthy achievement includes the precise prediction of the movement of the Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Tauktae in 2021, which ultimately made landfall on the Gujarat coast. Mohanty’s accurate forecasting during this critical event earned her widespread appreciation for her dedication and proficiency in the field.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar plays a crucial role in monitoring and predicting weather patterns for the region, aiding in disaster preparedness and response. With her wealth of experience and proven track record, Manorama Mohanty is poised to take on the responsibilities of the directorship and contribute to the center’s ongoing efforts in providing accurate and timely weather forecasts.
