Koraput: Near Tansing village under Padua police limits in Odisha’s Koraput district, a boat capsized in the Patali River, leading to the tragic loss of at least one life and leaving several others missing. The incident occurred on Thursday evening when a group of five individuals, including two women, two children, and a teenage girl, faced a harrowing ordeal as their boat overturned.
According to reports, the victims were residents of Badela village and were returning from a marriage function. The ill-fated boat, ferrying three women and their children, was notably without a boatman, with the women themselves taking on the task of rowing.
Upon learning of the mishap, local residents promptly alerted the police and the Fire Services in Nandapur, initiating a rescue operation. Tragically, the body of a woman was discovered floating in the river hours after the incident, while the search for the remaining missing individuals proved challenging for the rescue teams.
The victims, including women and children, were unable to be located by the Nandapur fire services personnel and members of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) who were mobilized for the rescue efforts.
The rescue operation, initially halted on Thursday night due to darkness, resumed on Friday morning as authorities sought to intensify their efforts in locating the missing individuals. The community has been gripped by grief and concern as they await updates on the fate of those still unaccounted for.
