Outcomes in Karnataka have evidenced that the Bharatiya Janata Party is losing its grip in the states and that there is something grossly wrong with its electoral war plans for assembly elections.

Shocking for the party that, so many factors in its favour like a popular PM like Modi, serial wins in the recent past but the party must have wronged itself somewhere and analysts see something out of sync in its electoral planning.

It cannot be entirely left to a few or two persons to chalk out a strategy for the coming polls. It were mainly, say sources BJP that Amit Shah, the home minister remained the soul and perhaps, somewhere his plans went off track as regards Karnataka.

And not to ignore that  the party’s state apparatus will always has a role in fine tuning the narratives than merely depending on a person’s popularity. So it goes without saying that, in state elections the voter looks at state specific issues.

Which has been amply proved in Karnataka where the state leadership harped on local issues.

Strong CMs Improve chances

In the realm of regional politics, the fortunes of the incumbent political party are inextricably linked to the leadership of the chief minister. This is due to the fact that the CM assumes the mantle of both the state unit of the political party and the government, thereby becoming the public face of the administration.

It has been seen that in many states where strong chief minister the BJP has done well. Be it Assam or Uttar Pradesh, Hemant Biswa Sarma and Yogi Adityanath were in target respectively.

.

Whereas in Karnataka Basvaraj Bommai proved to be a disaster and could not make the difference required.

As recent events have shown, the strength of a chief minister can make all the difference in navigating the treacherous waters of anti-incumbency.

Better that the BJP would do well to recognize that the erratic swapping of Chief Ministers in order to appease the whims of the central leadership is a flawed approach at this juncture. In the aftermath of Karnataka’s recent loss, it is imperative for the BJP to reflect on their decision to replace Yeddyurappa with Bommai as the state’s Chief Minister.

High Command Culture in BJP!

So what comes out that the ultimate authority lies solely in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The recent events surrounding Congress serve as a cautionary tale for the saffron party, highlighting the deplorable nature of such a political structure. The strategic appointment of less formidable chief ministers may indeed bolster the authority of the central leadership, yet it can prove disadvantageous for the state units.
