Odisha (UPDATED): Former Executive Engineer sentenced to 3 yrs RI in a DA case

Bhubaneswar, Dec 12 : A court here on Monday convicted a former Executive Engineer and his wife in a disproportionate assets case.
The special judge, Special Court, convicted Simadri Nayak, Ex-Executive Engineer and sentenced him to undergo three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10 lakh.
In default of payment of the fine, Nayak will undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 6 months more for the offence.
Simadri Nayak, Ex-Executive Engineer (Retired), R.W. Division, Umarkote, Dist-Nabarangpur, and his wife Laxmi Nayak were charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case for possessing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs.38,40,769 to their known sources of income were
The Court also sentenced Laxmi Nayak to undergo one-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.2 Lakhs and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 3 months more for the offense U/s 109 IPC.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority to stop the pension of Simadri Nayak following his conviction.
In another case, Special Judge Vigilance Bolangir also on Monday convicted Ananda Chandra Behera, Ex-Superintendent (Retired), Odisha Warehousing Corporation, Malmunda in Bolangir district.
Behera was charge-sheeted for possession of disproportionate assets.
He was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 1 year and also ordered to pay a fine of Rs.2 Lakhs. In default of payment of the fine, he would undergo further rigorous imprisonment for two months
