Bhubaneswar, Nov 14 : Odisha Cabinet meeting, held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on Tuesday approved a proposal for the construction of a barrage across river Rushikulya near Janvilli village under Dharakote block in Ganjam district.
Chief Secretry P K Jena, talking to newspersons after the cabinet meeting said the objective of the proposal also included hydro mechanical work, power connectivity works, road connectivity, staff quarters including design and estimate of all components with operation and maintenance of the project for a period of five years or five flood seasons whichever is more after commissioning of the project.
The Cabinet approved the tender amounting to Rs 86,54,00,000 for execution of the work. It excluded GST and O & M cost for five years amounting to Rs 1 crore.
The work is targeted to be completed in 24 months.
The project will provide irrigation to an Ayacut of 52,675 hectares in Ganjam district and provide drinking water facility of 67.5 million litres per day to the people of Berhampur Muncipal Corporation and will also be utilised for fishery development spread over an area of 32 hectares.
