Odisha Assembly Speaker expunges remarks made by BJD member Arun Sahu on leader of Oppn

Bhubaneswar, Sep 30 : Odisha Assembly Speaker Pramila Mallik on Saturday expunged the remarks of Arun Sahoo (BJD)on leader of Opposition Jay Narayan Mishra after the BJP members disrupted the proceedings and stalled the business of the house on Saturday demanding expunge of the remark.
The Speaker was forced to adjourn the house five times—once in the pre lunch session and four times in the post lunch session due to the protest by the BJP members.
The house could not transact any business in the prelunch session as the Speaker adjourned the house at 1031 hours till 1600 hrs after the BJP members created a ruckus in the house demanding the lifting of the suspension of two of their members- Mohan Charan Majhi and Mukesh Mahaling by the Speaker on Thursday and expunge of the derogatory remark made by Sahoo.
Mohan Majhi and Mukesh Mahaling were suspended after they allegedly threw dal at the Speaker’s podium.
Arun Sahu made certain remarks on the mental health of Leader of Opposition Jaynarayan Mishra after the Leader of Opposition and Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingha Mishra questioned the statewide tour of 5T Secretary and the Chief Minister’s statement.
After the house reassembled at 1600 hours, the BJP members continued their protest in the well of the house in support of their demands.
Amidst the din Congress members Tara Prasad BahiniPati and Santosh Singh Saluja said due to the protest they could not raise the issue of agitation launched by various organisations in Lower PMGarea in support of their demands and demanded the Speaker to call an all party meeting to resolve the dead lock.
The Speaker then adjourned the house at 1610hrs till 1710 hours and called an all party meeting. The house was subsequently adjourned thrice till 1822hrs.
Aafter the adjournment the Speaker expunged the remarks made by Arun Sahu on Leader of Opposition.
But the BJP members said expunge is not enough and demanded the Speaker to direct Sahu to beg apology for his remarks and they also reiterated their demand for the lifting of suspension of two of their members and continued their agitation.
Meanwhile the Congress members alleged that the house is not being run as per the rule and staged a walked out .
Amid the protest by the BJP members, the supplementary statement of expenditure of departments not taken up for discussion was passed through guilotine and various committee reports and papers were laid in the house.
