Odisha Assembly adjourned as a mark of respect to former Speaker Maheswar Mohanty

Bhubaneswar, Nov 21 : Odisha Assembly Speaker Pramila Mallik on Tuesday adjourned the house for the day as a mark of respect to former Odisha Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty, who passed away in the intervening period of the last budget session and the winter session of the house, which began on Tuesday.

The Speaker adjourned the house soon after the. House passed the obituary reference moved by the leader of the house Naveen Patnaik.

Cutting across party lines members of BJP, Congress and CPI-M joined the leader of the house Naveen to condole the death of members who have died and the security personnel who have laid down their lives for the country in between the budget and winter session of the house.

Moving the obituary reference Patnaik expressed his profound grief over the deaths of former Speaker Maheswar Mohanty, former Deputy Minister Saraswati Pradhan, former government Chief Whip Ajay Kumar Jena, former members -Rabi Dash, Yudhistir Samantaraya and former Lance Havildar Saroj Kumar Das and former Constable Prakash Chandra Sial.

He requested the Speaker to convey the condolence and sympathies of the house to the bereaved family members.

BJP Chief Whip Mohan Charan Majhi, Congress Legislature party leader Narasingha Mishra and CPI-M Member Laxman Munda and Speaker Pramila Mallik condoled the deaths and expressed their sympathies to the bereaved family members.

Later the house observed one minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
