To know that in a most vibrant democracy like India we tend to ignore a bizarre bottom reality that, our posterity has to work to live, not read and grow.

Child labour in India has become one of the most shocking deterrent for childhood of millions of children who slug in rain or shine in most hazardous places to gather a pittance from the garbage yards, a virtual spend-time home for them.

The exploative work conditions they are forced into robs them off their childhood, right to live with dignity. An ever increasing poverty level acting as a driving force behind the kids to grow in garbage dumps and become adolescent there only.

Besides that, hiring children for cheap labour right under the nose of the law-keepers is still in practice.

It is like a quick-sand situation and once they are forced into labour at a fairly young age, they are automatically denied their right to education. Unsafe working conditions also leave a severe impact on their health, thus, leading some of them to develop serious, long-term medical conditions.

Surprising that the deadly crime like child trafficking is deeply interlinked to child labor  and it has become a cycle of abuse. Children being subjected to all kinds of violence is extremely common, and are left even more vulnerable to social inequality and discrimination.

What the law says

Nationwide , the engagement of children in unfavourable or hazardous employment conditions is regulated under the Child Labour (Prohibition And Regulation) Act of 1986. The act completely prohibits the employment of children below the age of 14 in all occupations.   The Ministry of Labour and Employment of the Government of India has even issued an SOP for the enforcement of this act in the year 2017. It is also equally important to ensure that children are withdrawn from workplaces where hazardous work is being undertaken for the sake of their care and protection.

For which the enforcement departments of the government has to play a critical role in identifying and rescuing children from hazardous sectors.

Way to combat child labour

The child labour condition in India is phenomenally huge and grows because of serious addressing by the government via developing long-term services for the rehabilitation of children to ensure they have access to education and health services.

Which hardly manifest in the areas where such abuse of childhood is perniciously on the high.
