Youth commits suicide after being implicated in false atrocity case; sarpanch arrests

Sangli, Maharashtra, July 5 : A 25-year-old youth committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself in his home after being implicated in a false atrocity act and demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh to withdraw the case by the village sarpanch and his deputy.
The incident occurred at Posewadi in Khanapur tehsil of this district on Wednesday, police sources said.
According to Khanapur police, Posewadi sarpanch Ankush Namdev Thombare, his deputy Sagar Jadhav, and the other four had booked a false atrocity case against deceased Nahaseh Jadhav and threatened to give a ransom of Rs 5 lakh to withdraw the case.
Frightened and fed up with mentally de-stressing, Mahesh committed suicide by hanging himself this morning at his residence, police added.
Police arrested Thombare, Jadhav, and the other four people who motivated Mahesh to commit suicide.
Police are investigating further.
