The shocking incident in which the health minister of Odisha died after being shot by a police official has now raised several questions regarding the safety of people.
It is not merely because the killer is a cop but as a whole, the police is liable to explain as how such an incident could take place in full public glare and the security layer around a minister was in a slumber.
Pending the investigation, it is an unacceptable theory that a man or the police personal barges into the cordon to shoot at the minister. Or one could not assume that as because the police man, an Asst Sub Inspector was, as said by his wife, was not mentally sound so he did that coldblooded murder of a minister.
The accused cop was in traffic control, then barges into the security ring and fires point blank at the minister. The security personnel of the minister were unable to control the killer cop till he fired another two shots as per the FIR. Ultimately, he was overpowered and disarmed. That speaks of the ability the VIP security prsonnel we have.
Now, the case has been given to the Crime Branch so, it is a question of police taking on another police. So, the dividing line between virtue and evil becomes very thin.
Now, the it can be questioned if a sub-inspector was mentally unsound that could not have escaped the attention of the department or his colleagues. If he had any mental ailment then why was he continuing in the post which requires a lot of mental cool and restrain.
If the culprit cop was mentally unwell, then the department must wake up and see that through a filtering mechanism that ow many of their officers with mental insanity go around wielding a weapon.
A probe can only establish that aspect of the man in question and his wife’s statement cannot be a reason for leniency for the killer.
It was surely a case of calculated design hatched either by him for any reason or he was used as a scape goat to do the job for them.
And, the most vital aspect is the security lapse. A man dangling his pistol breaking into the security ring of a cabinet minister and play the killer was not incidental in any way.
The police department owe a explanation as how such elements (mentally unsound) are assigned to work or was there a reckless neglect of the vigil around the minister so that any one can barge in with a gun and kill.
Several attempts to communiacte with the Director General of Police or any subordinate went in vain as none of the officials came on the line.
