Odisha: Fast track Special court sentences two people to 12-years RI

Kendrapada, Nov 24 (Updated) :Ad-hoc Additional District & Session Judge (Fast Track Special Court) Kendrapada, Tribikram Keshari Chinhara, on Thursday convicted two accused on the charge of kidnapping and raping a minor girl in the Pattamundai Police Station area in 2011.
Additional Public Prosecutor Sanjay Kumar Jena said the court sentenced Dora Jena (35) of Gandakula under the Pattamundai police station area and Anil Mallick (32) of Gobindapur village under the Rajnagar police station area to 12 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 20,000.
”The court directed that if the convicted persons failed to pay, they would have to undergo another six months of imprisonment,” said Jena.
The court announced the judgment after verifying evidence and hearing the testimony of 26 witnesses.
The court also recommended to the state government that it provide compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim.
A report said Dora, along with his associate Anil, allegedly kidnapped the girl from her house and raped her.
On the next day, while Anil was staying in Sasana village with the girl, the villagers nabbed him and handed him over to the police.
Not finding her daughter, the father of the victim lodged a FIR with the Pattamundai Police Station on September 6, 2011.
Acting on the FIR, Pattamundai Police registered a case u/s 363,366(A),376,34 IPC.
While adjudging the case on Thursday by verifying the evidence and hearing the testimony of 26 witnesses convicted of 12 years of Rigorous Imprisonment along with a fine amount of Rs 20,000 to the duo accused.
The court directed that if the convicted person failed to provide a fine amount, he would further go for another six months of imprisonment, said Jena, the Additional public prosecutor.
